As we welcome SACHAJUAN into the Luxurious Look family, we wanted to explore what it is within this beautifully minimal yet technologically advanced Scandinavian haircare range that attracts such a loyal customer following.
SACHAJUAN’s Education Manager, Emma Taylor and Salon Brand Ambassador, Pete Burkill, tell us more about SACHAJUAN’s breakthrough ingredient base – Ocean Silk Technology and what it is for them that sets SACHAJUAN apart from other brands within the market.
So, what exactly is Ocean Silk Technology?
Emma: OCEAN SILK TECHNOLOGY is the genius ingredient in SACHAJUAN’s products and is the key to making SACHAJUAN unlike any other hair care brand!! Ocean Silk Technology is created using extracts from two cold water algae naturally harvested from the shores of Normandy: Rhodophyceae and Chondrus Crispus.
Tell us more, what do these 2 Plant Algaes do?
Emma: Let’s start with RHODOPYCEAE. “I can’t even say it, I hear you say, let alone know what it does for the hair…...well do not fear Emma is here!!!” First and foremost, it strengthens hair, increases elasticity, and adds moisture! It works primarily on the inside of the hair boosting the hair’s mineral balance with Magnesium, Calcium, Manganese and Zinc. It contains great nourishing and normalising properties for the scalp, which is why our number one selling product is the SACHAJUAN Scalp Shampoo.
The second of these 2 incredible plant-based ingredients is CHONDRUS CRISPUS. Another mouthful I know. As we have all the internal strength covered by Rhodophyceae, what we need is to ensure the outside of the hair strand mirrors its internal health. This subsequently works mainly on the surface of the hair and contains a higher Calcium and Zinc content to boost shine and protect hair from surface damage. This is the bit that makes your hair look gloriously glossy. It also has the added benefit of complimenting Rhodophyceae in maintaining fabulous scalp health.
Which products contain Ocean Silk Technology?
Emma: This technology is used throughout our Shampoo and Conditioner lines; Ocean Mist Volume Shampoo and Conditioner have huge amounts of OST which is ideal for those who lack texture in their locks! Enriched with Ocean Silk Technology and Vegetable Proteins, the shampoo builds body but without adding any weight. The conditioner then moisturises, protects, and detangles, completing the ‘fuller’ look to the hair. It gives you those gorgeous, beachy waves that make you look like you’ve spent an afternoon in the sea, without even having to leave your house!!
My other absolute favourite product that contains loads of Ocean Silk Technology is Hair Repair. Run this through your hair on a weekly basis to treat malnourished locks, leave for 5-15 minutes and treat yourself by adding a hot turban to your head for the ultimate pamper. Soak a towel in hot water and squeeze out the excess then wrap around your hair to infuse the goodness and rinse. This will inject moisture and build elasticity, while strengthening hair and adding shine.
You talk a lot about scalp health, why is this so important?
Pete: We always make sure we are educating clients on how important it is to look after their scalp. The first part of the hair’s journey is in the scalp. A healthy scalp with a good blood flow to it will feed the hair so it is getting a head start right at the beginning stage. I always recommend to clients that we look after the scalp whether that’s with an exfoliating treatment such as SACHAJAUAN Scalp Scrub every one or two weeks or whether it’s by alternating their usual shampoo and conditioner with SACHAJUAN Scalp Shampoo and Conditioner. I don’t think that treating the scalp is exclusive to those with scalp problems, we should all look after our scalp like we do our skin.
What is it in SACHAJUAN products that make it so good for scalp health?
Emma: Aside from Ocean Silk Technology which offers nourishing and normalising properties to boost scalp health, our scalp products also contain Climbazole and Piroctone Olamine that work to remove dandruff and soothe irritations. We come across so many clients with scalp issues as many day-to-day products mask the issue rather than solve the problem. Our formula contains Rosemary Oil, Menthol, Salicylic Acid, Ginger Extract and Oat Oil to soothe the scalp and maintain and promote a healthy moisture balance for both hair and scalp. The products are full of goodness to help itchy flaky scalps, but they also avoid overloading the hair with oil and creating build up. When we first launched our scalp range, we started with just the shampoo, a niche product for people with scalp issues like dandruff, sensitivity, and irritations. What we thought would be a small customer segment is today one of our best-selling products and used globally.
